Registration is now OPEN for the Goat Veterinary Society Summer Conference, this year to be held in the historic town of Harrogate in Yorkshire. The Conference is open to GVS members and non-members, vets and all with an interest in the health and welfare of goats. The conference consists of two days: day one starts with an afternoon farm walk at a nearby goat dairy, with presentation stations from guest speakers, followed by an evening drinks reception and 3 course meal. Day two consists of a day of speaker presentations.
This course aims to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of practical feeding management for dairy herds along with knowledge relating to the financial aspects of feeding a dairy herd.
A one-day course getting to grips with all areas of youngstock nutrition, covering colostrum, milk powder, concentrates and options including TMR. We offer hands-on investigation into both bucket-fed and machine-fed calf systems, with the afternoon practical based in a new group-housed shed with machines to discuss many on-farm solutions.
We'll provide you with the confidence to deal with calls from small holders from start to finish. Handling and clinically examining pigs can be challenging and daunting; this course will provide you with the skills you need using practical experience and appropriate equipment. You'll learn about common husbandry practices as well as how to produce a simple herd health plan and biosecurity plan. This course also covers the sample collection, including blood sampling, and euthanasia technique, and how to minimise the stress for both the animal, owner and attending vet.
