Dear New Vet Grad

For everyone who graduates from vet school the achievement is enormous. Getting onto the degree course is the first challenge, the demands of the undergraduate programme the next, and then gaining your MRCVS status is the ultimate accomplishment. To those who have just done that and who had their finals during a global pandemic, BCVA Board members applaud you.

The team, who occupy roles in all aspects of the profession, will be sharing their experiences and advice across BCVA’s social media platforms in the coming weeks. Our Dear Vet Grad messages and its accompanying hashtag (#DearVetGrad) will welcome and encourage our newest colleagues and we hope members will also share what they love about being a cattle vet, and also what they wish they’d known when they graduated. Simply share your memories and advice on Twitter or Facebook, adding #DearvetGrad and @theBCVA.

This year we also have plans to expand our benefits for students and new graduates, with the aim to encourage greater take up in cattle practice and support those who choose a farm animal veterinary career.

President, Nikki Hopkins, has started the Dear Vet Grad messages with a Q&A about her own experiences as a newly qualified vet working in farm animal practice, and offering her advice to 2020’s entrants into the profession.
