HHPM and Welfare learning outcomes

Devise appropriate herd health plans and deliver active herd health to increase the profitability, health, welfare and sustainable productivity of dairy cattle enterprises.

Key learning outcomes are:

  • Manage: Risk assessment-KPIs, benchmarking, targets & tools
  • Manage: Risk management-consultancy, advice & tools (calendars+SOPS)
  • Manage: Knowledge exchange opportunities
  • Monitor: Surveillance technique & tools
  • Examples of dairy herd health planning and plans
  • Observational visit data and pre-visit data recording & analysis of health & welfare outcomes
  • History & context of health planning: sustainable food production
  • Farm assurance requirements including AMU and preparing for future changes including Arla 360 etc
  • Cattle health schemes including CHeCS, BVDFree, Action Johnes, AHDB Mastitis Control Plan & AHDB Healthy Feet
  • Plan formulation vs active herd health planning
  • Understand the role of the vet and veterinary practice business opportunities applying herd health in Sustainable Livestock Production - herd health is key to reducing the environmental impact of livestock food production
  • Application of sustainability tools such as ‘Cool Farm tool’
